What is a blessingway?

A blessingway is a Navajo traditional celebration of pregnancy and new motherhood. The celebration is more about the mother to be than the baby. This celebration exclusively involves the Mom's closest family and friends. During the celebration the Mom's family and friends will pray over the Mom, share advice and experiences for laboring, postpartum care and raising a healthy child.

Baby showers celebrate the unborn baby and gifts are given to clothe and care for the baby. Games are played and gifts are received. Blessing way's cater to the mother and what will best help her transition into motherhood.
