Let Us Assist You

“Birth takes a woman’s deepest fears about herself and show her that she is stronger than them.” – Unknown

What is a birth doula?

A birth doula is a person who supports an expecting family through labor & delivery. (Ex. Provide information regarding birth procedures/interventions, positions for less painful birth, massage and other comfort measures)

what is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula is a person who supports new parents with their transition into parenthood and assists Mom in birth recovery. (Ex. Assist with childcare, laundry, meal prep,  mom recovery/caregiving )

why is doula birthwork needed?

Doula work is used to reduce anxiety, reduce unnecessary birth interventions/procedures, boost awareness of healthy birth practices which helps to decrease Black birth mortality of mothers and infants and help the new parents transition into parenthood.

can i still have a doula if they cannot come into the delivery room?

Yes, If only one other person is allowed into the birthing room at a hospital or birthing center a Doula can still assist a Mom virtually. Doula's can still show the birthing mother what positions to move into for easier labor and can still provide information and support via online means. Doula's cannot provide massage virtually.

What is Omugwo?

In the Igbo tribe, they practice a postpartum tradition called omugwo. This is where new moms and babies are taken care of for 3 months. At Spa Oguzor, your Omugwo can last between 2 weeks and 1 month. This will include hot traditional meals (for nourishment), hot body fundus massages (to reduce belly), child care for you and your partner to nap, massages and more!
